Obituary for Rosa Teresa "Tati" Ramirez (Veliz)

Rosa Teresa "Tati" Ramirez (Veliz)
Rosa was born to Amelia Miranda and Julian Velez in Havana, Cuba on August 30, 1939. She moved to Key West, Florida when she was 11 years old.

She lived in Key West with her mother for a number of years, before moving again to New York, where she was raised with her sisters, Gina and Carlita, and brother Gilbert.

Rosa was a beautiful person. She loved fashion, and had a true passion for jewelry and handbags. She modeled throughout her life, appearing in various skin care ads. She won 2nd place in in the 1961 Miss Lippa Beauty Pageant, and was chosen to appear before judges in the 1962 Miss Beaux Arts competition.

Rosa worked for Eico Electronics for 17 years, and when the company closed, she was given the opportunity to pursue her real dream of educating children. In 1995, she began her career with the Board of Education. While working for them, she took courses to become a Paraprofessional. Rosa first began tutoring in math, English and Reading in 1999. In 2001, she pursued her teaching degree at York College. Earlier this year, she retired from P.S. 138, leaving an amazing legacy of helping young people.

Rosa left behind the love of her life, Justo Omar Ramirez, five children, Ricardo, Andre, Maria, Eduardo, Mario and Ricky, five grandchildren, Chatel, Ebony, Raymond, Anita, Lydia, Nadia and Niema and seven great-grandchildren, Kaneira, Jada, Kayden, Raymond, Jadore, Janiyah and Jayonna.

We will all remember Rosa, with her heart full of love, and her lifetime of spreading joy and inspiration. She truly changed the lives of every person who was fortunate enough to know her. She will be missed dearly, though she will live on forever in all of our memories.
