Deo Edward Brewster, 70, returned to his heavenly home on Good Friday, April 03, 2015, after a valiant battle with cancer. His devotion to his family supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace.
Deo was born to Deo and Dorothy Brewster, in Brooklyn, NY on March, 11, 1945. He drew his strength and character from his mother, retired Director of Nursing in Upstate New York, who after becoming a single parent devoted her life to raising her family. He served his country with great distinction as a Sergeant in the United States Air Force from 1964 to 1971. He earned an Associate's Degree in Applied Science and was an accomplished master in the culinary arts. He also achieved Certificates in Dietetics and Hotel and Restaurant Management, Fire Safety, and other numerous technical Certificates in Building Maintenance Management.
Deo was blessed with a large and loving family. He married his best friend, Alma M. Brewster, in New York.
Deo helped raise his children with laughter, discipline, and great love. He taught them culture, how to stand up for themselves, and to believe that they could accomplish anything, leading his children to serve the public through education and military service.
Deo had a brilliant mind and was an educator at heart. An elite athlete, he had a gregarious sense of humor and always made time to share his love of music, art, classic films, and sports with his family. He is dearly missed by his loved ones, who celebrate the fact that he is at peace with his creator.
Deo is survived by his wife, Alma; his daughters, Zahra A. Belyea, Dr. Tameeka A. Grant, and Technical Sgt. Lakisha A. Croley; his sons-in-law, Aaron C. Belyea, Ainsworth G. Grant, and Staff Sgt. (Ret.) Christopher C. Croley; his granddaughter, Victoria L. Grant; his siblings, Kenneth Brewster, Lillian Belcher, Dr. Dorothy Brewster-Lee Matthews, and Robert Brewster. He was brother-in-law to Sheila, Pauline, Derrick, and to Alma's seven brothers, their spouses, and her sister, Madonna, and her husband, Jeffrey. He had numerous cousins, was an uncle to many nieces and nephews, and a good friend to many, including the Binyard family. He is preceded in death by his brother, Charles Brewster.
