Sunrise came for Betty Jean Walters on February 23rd, 1939 in Augusta , Georgia to the late Lillie Mae Barton and Leroy Hickson. Betty was raised by her paternal aunt Kate Hickson and her husband Perless Holman in Elko, South Carolina. At an early age she joined the church and was baptized at St. Peter’s Baptist Church in Elko.

Betty had one daughter Vickie Ann Bates who predeceased her. She later met and married the late Phillip Walters, and to this union they had one child Bridgette Watts. Betty worked as a domestic for many years.
Sunset came for Betty on May 12th, 2015 at Hillside Manor in Jamaica, New York.

She leaves to cherish her memory: one daughter, Bridgette Watts of Jamaica, New York; one son-in-law, Braydon Watts of Jamaica, New York; one brother Lorenzo Jennings of Jacksonville, Florida; two sisters, Mae Pearl Jennings and Ethel Lee Griffin both of Jacksonville, Florida; four grandchildren, Kimwanna Holman-Stancil of Queens Village, New York; Bobby Andre Bates of Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania; Shanequa Watts of Jamaica, New York; Shante Watts of Jamaica, New York; 12 great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
