Doreen Redhead Thomas was born on December 19, 1929, in Grenada, BWI, to the late Audriana and Charles Redhead. She was the youngest of 10 children all who predeceased her.
Doreen completed her education in Grenada. In Grenada, Doreen was a nursery school teacher. Doreen immigrated to the United States in 1968 and settled in Jamaica, NY. Eventually, Doreen gained employment as a nurse's aide at Mary Immaculate Hospital. She worked there until her retirement.
Doreen married her husband, Ezickel Mark Thomas in 1972 and shared 38 years of happiness together until his passing in 2010.
Mark and Doreen loved Grenada. They traveled there several times together visiting family and reminiscing about old times. They took their last trip there together in 2001 accompanied by Mark's brother Tim, sister-in-law Dorothy niece Cheryl and nephew Norris.
As Mark's health was failing, Doreen dedicated her life to taking care of him and making him as comfortable as possible. On the several occasions when Mark was in the hospital in Manhattan, Doreen would take a taxi to Manhattan early in the morning and stay all day to take Mark breakfast, lunch and dinner and fed him to make sure he ate. While he was there, she used her training to tend to his needs.
Doreen missed Mark. She is happy now that they are reunited.
Doreen is survived by her nephews, Edmond Redhead, Ashley Redhead, Nelson Redhead and Osmond Redhead; nieces Yvonne Redhead, Etta Redhead, Maureen Redhead, Grace Redhead, Myrl Redhead, Andrea Redhead, Cheryl Thomas-Smith, Clovia Thomas and Denise Bertrand; great nieces and nephews; great-great nieces and nephews; cousins Doris Stephen, May Rose Franklin, Olsen Redhead, Joslin Redhead, Cynthia Clovey, Nora, Anthony Redhead, Mona Alexander, Catherine Alexis and Teacher Marshall; her goddaughter and cousin Rachel Ford, special neighbors Agnes Pilgrim and Josephine and a host of other cousins and friends.
