Verdella Lee was my father, Winn Spears' only sister. I vividly remember being a pre-schooler and visiting with my "Aunt Vee" (the pet name I called her, my brothers followed my lead and called her that as well). My parents use to bring my brothers and I to her weekly. Aunt Vee had a vivacious laugh that would fill up a room. My mom fondly called her "Big Sis" as they were born in the same year 11 months apart. I loved being in Aunt Vee's presence. Although she has three beautiful daughters and two sons, I was told that I looked just like her! The aroma of good food and the sound of good music always filled up her home. Our family would dance, sing and absorb eachothers love. Aunt Vee would not have it any other way. I always admired the way Aunt Vee dressed. She was so a classy lady. I was spoiled by Aunt Vee's love. In my heart I always felt like I was her favorite niece. Today, I would not be surprised if my cousins felt the same way too. Aunt Vee's love was just that strong. Remella and I attended the same high school. We would take turns spending the night at eachothers homes. Aunt Vee would have a hot "soul food meal" piping hot every night. She surely believed in feeding her family well. Sometimes she would chide, girl you are just like your daddy. We'd laugh until tears rolled down our faces. I could always make her laugh. When my mom moved south in 1987, my son, Gregory was three years old at that time. We moved in with Aunt Vee until my apartment was ready six months later. She and I spent many days talking. She always gave me sound advice and never judged me. As the years moved on and Aunt Vee's health began to fail I was very sorrowful. Like the rest of my family it was very difficult seeing her in pain. My prayer for her has always been for God to grant her mercy and peace. She moved to Heaven and I will miss her so much! God our eternal father whispered in my ear that she is at peace. God Bless You Aunt Vee, memories of you will be forever etched in my mind and I will always hold a special place for you in my heart. Love Wendy, your favorite niece
