Marie Tavernier Nelson, age 80, died peacefully on March 14, 2016 at Nathan Littauer Hospital after sustaining brain injury on November 8, 2015. Marie was born March 24, 1935 in the Commonwealth of Dominica to the late Feddy Tavernier and Rose Edwards Tavernier.
Although Marie did not attend high school, she was a very bright, knowledgeable and articulate person who loved to work. She was a dedicated and hardworking individual who sometimes work 6 or 7 days to provide for her children. Nothing could slow her down- she was still working fulltime at “Social Concern Community Development” way past her retirement age. Marie's life revolved around helping others - no job was too hard or low for her to perform, and often went beyond the call of duty to satisfactorily complete any given task. Marie would always give assistance to those in need. As a result of her work ethics, she gained much respect and love admirably from her family, employers and friends.
Marie travelled to the United States in 1990 where she continued to have a significant and positive effect on the lives of everyone with whom she came into contact. Marie was a peoples’ person in all respects and who loved her job for which she gained much satisfaction.
Marie is survived by her seven children, Zacchaeus, Magdalene, Melina (Ann), Patrick, Anna Maria, Carlson and Jason. Her sisters: Theresa and Josephine. Sister-in-law: Madeleine. Nine grandchildren: Chester, Kurt, Jemma, Kevin, Chevon, Donell, Shernidah, Jayden and Domnik. Her only great grandson Dominic. Her five nieces: Ursuline, Nathalie, Annette, Glenda and Vincia. Only nephew Roger. Sons-in- law: John and Victor, daughters- in -law Michelle and Melisa. She also leaves behind to mourn numerous loving relatives and friends in Dominica and the United States.
