Obituary for Nettie Lee Evans

Ms. Nettie Lee Evans, daughter of the late Arthur and Rosa Lee Thomas, was born on October 21st, 1921 in Darlington County South Carolina. She was called to God, peacefully and quietly on April 12, 2016.

Nettie attended the Darlington County Public School System and relocated to Brooklyn NY at an early age to begin work as a seamstress. She met and married John Evans on March 27, 1948 and together they were blessed to raise their daughter Diana. John passed away on January 11th, 1976.

All things are possible for one who believes.
Mark 9:23

Nettie worked at Coney Island Hospital from 1958-1972 and for the NYC Department of Social Services from 1972-1978 where she retired from the work force. She was a member of Thessalonia Baptist Church and St. Pauls Church, both of Brooklyn NY.

Now faith is confidence in what we hope for, and assurance about what we do not see. Hebrews 11:1

Nettie was always on the go and did not bite her tongue for anyone, lol. She was a member of senior citizen centers in both Brooklyn and Baldwin and was an avid baseball fan who loved her Mets. She was always available to help family and friends when needed and was dearly loved by many. She was the last of her siblings to depart this earth and she will be missed by many. Nettie is predeceased by 6 siblings: Rosa Mae Brown, Geneva Norris, Jessie Foster, Helen Timpson, Arthur Thomas Jr., and Cleveland Thomas.

Nettie leaves to embrace her memory her daughter, Diana Bernard Marcus and son-in-law Everton Marcus; her grandchildren Sharia Marcus, Brandon Marcus & Bellamy Marcus and a great-grandchild Cameron Marcus-Carter. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
