Kareem Nigel Nickerson was born on November 3, 1975 at Queens General Hospital. He attended P.S. 139, JHS 45 and graduated from John Bowne High School. He then attended LaGuardia Community College. Kareem was also known to many people as "Nigel Chef Kash". He pursued his passion for culinary arts and obtained his license in 2000-2001. He later received his certification for ServSafe in 2011.

Kareem was humble and ambitious, always looking forward to going to the next level. He utilized his experiences in the culinary field to provide excellent customer service. He was currently working at the Barclay Center as a lead cook. He loved his job and demonstrated compassion. He was well known and appreciated by the staff and managers.

He received Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. He attended Assembly of Zion Worship Center in Jamaica N.Y. as well as Greater Shiloh Baptist Church in Brooklyn, N.Y. He served in different ministries with a grateful and loving heart. On Dec. 28, 2007, he married his loving wife, Vernetta and with this union he became the father of four beautiful children.

On Sunday, June 18, 2017, Kareem closed his eyes and GOD opened His arms to receive him. We love him dearly but GOD loves him more. He leaves behind to cherish his memory: His parents: Andre and Susan, his wife: Vernetta, his children: Shawima, Sara, Isaiah, and Allen, his grandchildren: Brianna, Shianna, Imani and Akeem, 11 siblings, one of which has preceded him: Christopher, Andrea, Suzette, Juan, Kelita, Adrian, Troy, Tony, Raoul, Andre and Annette (deceased) as well as a host of family and friends.
