Obituary for Edna M Oliver

Edna M Oliver
Edna Mae Davis Oliver was born February 3, 1941, in Orangeburg South Carolina. She was the eldest of three children born to the late Carl Edward Davis and Lila B. Simpson Davis. Her sister, Lillie Ann Davis Johnson proceeded her in death.

Edna attended Public School in Orangeburg, and later graduated from Orangeburg Wilkinson High School. After migrating to New York in 1961, she was briefly employed by AT&T, and later, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. While working for the Port Authority, she held several positions with the last position being at Kennedy Airport. Edna retired from the Port Authority with over 25yrs of service.

Edna was united in marriage to the love of her life, Joe Louis Oliver on June 28th, 1958. To this union three children were born, Darren, Pamela, and Duane. Sadly, Darren passed away in 2003, and on October 14th, 2016, the family was to experience the great loss of their Patriarch, Joe. He was the pillar of his family and most of all, the ultimate love of Edna’s life.

The Oliver household was filled with unconditional love. The home was perfectly imperfect. Edna and Joe become parents, grandparents, close friend and confidants to many. They were a match made in Heaven. Though opposite in many ways, their relationship was a complete balance.

At an early age, Edna was baptized at Williams Chapel AME Church, in Orangeburg SC. In the early 70’s Edna along with Joe were invited to Shiloh Baptist Church by her co-worker, Francis Tillman. It was the first invitation of many, and the couple felt at home. They later joined under the leadership of Reverend John K. Brewington. Edna also chose to be re-baptized with complete submersion. As an active member, Edna served on the Diaconate Board, Scholarship Committee, Women’s Day Committee, Pastors Assistance, Senior and Mass Choirs. Edna loved her Shiloh family with all her heart.

Edna was quiet, but always ready to lend an ear. She was soft-spoken, but always ready to give you a positive word. She could give you her opinion, and thou you may not have liked it, you valued it. Edna’s love came straight from her heart. You could see it in her eyes and warm smile.

On September 28th, 2017 God welcomed Edna home. She now rests with her Heavenly Father, and is united with Joe once again.

Edna leaves to rejoice in her memory: two children, devoted daughter, Pamela Oliver-Letang and son, Duane Oliver; brother, Marion Davis; two daughter in-laws, Karen Bean Oliver and Nadia Oliver; one son-in-law, David Letang; four devoted grandchildren, Atiah Letang, Elias Letang, Caleb Oliver and Leah Oliver; two aunts, Lizzie Bowman Gusney and Dorothy Williams; one uncle, Glenn Davis; sister-in-love Wilhelmenia Martin. The entire Davis Family which includes; nieces, nephews and cousins. Devoted daughters-in-love, Shatanyaer Pitt, Lynette Martin, Nuri Letang Bashir, Lisa Kinley, Tracey Thurman and Robin DeFreitas who supported Edna and her family in their own very special ways. Her Shiloh Family, 224th Street Family, and a host of extend family and friends.
