Cornelia  Burt
Mrs. Cornelia Burt, daughter of the late Catherine Young-Elam and James Williams Sr was born April 27th, 1943 in Edgefield County, South Carolina. She was called home on Thursday August 3rd, 2017.
Cornelia attended Edgefield County High School graduating in 1960.
During these early years she was a member of Science Hill Baptist Church also located in Edgefield County. She married in August 1964 and moved to New York to begin her life as a loving wife and mother. Cornelia resided in Corona and Long Island City before making her home in Cambria Heights.
Throughout her life she remained a devoted Christian. Antioch Baptist Church became her church home during her years living in Corona and Long Island City. After moving to Cambria Heights she became a chartered member of Sunset Pentecostal Church led by the Rev. Roy L. Foots where she served as Trustee, Choir member and Church Secretary. The now Bishop R. L. Foots was moved by GOD to Pastor at New Direction Evangelistic Church in Virginia. Cornelia then joined Solid Rock Baptist Church led by the late Rev. E. D. Sheppard where she served as Deaconess, Trustee, Church Secretary and Choir member. She remained an active member until called home on August 3rd, 2017.
Cornelia held various waitress jobs prior to starting as a Bank Teller at the Marine Midland Bank. She retired in the Mid 90’s as an Account Manager for the Corporate Banking Department which handled the Fortune 500 business accounts.
Left to cherish her memories are (loving husband of 53 years) Harrison E. Burt of Cambria Heights, NY; (son) Darryl E. Burt Sr. of Fresh Meadow, NY; (daughter) Benita A. Burt of Cambria Heights, NY; (grandchildren) Darryl E. Burt Jr.; Meisha E. Burt; Kyasia N. Burt all of Cambria Heights, NY; (sisters) Georgia M. Knight of Trenton, SC. ; Debra (James) McCollum of Paterson, NJ; Yvette Elam of Paterson, NJ and Bernice Williams-Parker of Atlanta, GA; (brothers) Press Elam Jr of Edgefield, SC; Marion (Valerie) Williams of Hampton, VA; Albert Williams of Colorado Springs, CO.
Preceding her in death are (sisters) Eva M. Elam; Mamie L. Elam (both of Brooklyn, NY) (brothers) Ernest Williams of Atlanta, GA; James Williams Jr of Edgefield County, SC; William P. Elam of Paterson, NJ; Johnnie W. Elam of Paterson, NJ; Moses Elam of Edgefield County, SC; Marvin Williams of Suffolk, Va.
Cornelia also left to mourn (sister-in-law) Gwen Williams of Atlanta, GA; (2 uncles) Jimmy Young of Edgefield, SC and Albert Williams of Trenton, SC and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
